About Jennifer Finney-Ellison​

Jennifer Finney-Ellison is an experienced teacher educator, author, and ELD consultant. As a neophyte teacher in California’s largest school district, Jennifer realized her passion to provide optimal instruction for all students, in particular, for academic English learners and English learners.

Her thirty plus years of educational experiences include 16 years of teaching in striving and high-achieving schools, teaching pre-service teachers, and being an English learner coach in one of California’s largest school districts. Ms. Finney-Ellison works closely with school districts and educational agencies across the country to support teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators by presenting at conferences and institutes, writing curriculum, teaching demonstration lessons in K-12 classrooms, conducting training on HMH’s research-validated English language development programs, English 3D, Grades 4-12 and Academic Vocabulary Toolkit, Grades 3-8, facilitating guided lesson observations and technical coaching, and consulting with district teams to build and refine their ELD programs.

The work is for and with all students.

Ms. Finney-Ellison, with Dr. Kinsella, and in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition National Professional Development grants program, co-authored a K-2 academic vocabulary program that served as a curricular anchor and professional development to improve outcomes for primary students.

Most recently, in partnership with Dr. Kinsella, she has co-authored a K-3 ELD curriculum, English 3D, to support the unique needs of primary multilingual learners. 

Through her partnership with Dr. Kinsella, Ms. Finney-Ellison has worked extensively with high-priority districts and education agencies to advance initiatives for K-12 English learners and striving students in districts throughout California and the United States.
